An Online Conference, 29th-30th September, 2-5.45pm BST
The Centre for Muslim-Christian Studies Oxford
What do Muslims think of the Bible? Mentioned in both positive and negative ways in the Qur’an, the scriptures of Jews and Christians occupy a complex place in Muslim thought. Six authors of important works in this area, several new out in 2021, will illuminate some of the many different trends in this area of what could be called Muslim Biblical studies. Some of the six speakers look back many centuries, others concentrate on more recent times, but all will open up ideas still debated and influential today. From the crucifixion to Salafi approaches and Sufi ideas, there is food for thought at this conference for anyone interested in the reception history of the Bible, as well as those in the field of Islamic Studies and those with a wider interest in interreligious relations.
